Harmonic Drive Systems Inc. was established in Tokyo on 27 October 1970 as a joint venture of Hasegawa Gear Works and USM, and its head office is in Minami-Oi, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo. It sells strain wave gearing under the HarmonicDrive brand and further speed reducers under the AccuDrive brand, together with mechatronics products, and its main end markets are industrial robots and semiconductor production equipment. After listing on the over-the-counter market in 1998 and later trading on JASDAQ, its shares are now listed on the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange under securities code 6324. In 2017 the company bought a further 63.2% of its German affiliate Harmonic Drive AG, now Harmonic Drive SE, and it made the US company Harmonic Drive LLC a wholly owned subsidiary by acquiring the remaining 49% of its shares. For the year ended 31 March 2025 it reported consolidated net sales of ¥55,645 million, against ¥55,796 million a year earlier, and it had 1,349 employees on a consolidated basis as of 31 March 2024.
